Raja Ram Mohan Roy is regarded as the Father of the Indian Renaissance. As a scholar, a rational thinker and a social reformer his contribution to change the Indian society of his times had been immense. Throughout his life he espoused oneness of God. He translated Vedic scriptures into English, co-founded the Calcutta Unitarian Society and founded the Brahmo Samaj. He campaigned against sati, child marriages, polygamy and caste rigidity and established a number of schools to modernize the education system in India.
